REFLECTIVE STATEMENT For this module, we are required to do an assignment with regards of SME company. The purpose of writing the report is to analyze the key internal issues the management is likely to face when strategizing their marketing formula. Besides, we are also required to provide a practical recommendation for the company. For this project, the class was divided into 3 groups and each group consists of 3 members. My group members are Miss Tai Geok Yeong and Miss Sharanya. Discussions among group members were held 4 times, on the 29th October, 2nd November, 4th November and 6th November, respectively. Besides of our normal meeting in college, the discussions also were held through the MSN chat and email. Each of our group members was allocated with task and although conflicts arise during the discussion, we still managed to solve the problem. In my opinion, conflict in a group is not necessarily bad and we use several of techniques in order to resolve conflicts l ike compromising and exercises work delegation. Throughout completing the task – CareKoolTint Sdn Bhd, I have gained lots of new information about SME and the company. In order to get more facts about the company, we held an interview with one of their sales representatives on 2nd November 2009. From the 1 hour interview, we managed to gather the information needed for this project, which for example are, their current marketing strategies and the company’s internal issues. One important lesson I learnt from the interview is that, even though small firms is not properly structured, it does not mean that SMEs do not engage in marketing. It is only that, they are doing marketing according to their own terms and not according to a theoretical framework. Other than interviewing the sales representatives, my group and I also did a research based from their websites and also by reading books. It is important so that we will have a broader view on the business environme nt and help us to write the task more accurately. In order to complete the task, I read Marketing and Entrepreneurship in SMEs, Principles of Marketing by Philip Kotler and Fundamentals of Management to have a better understanding about SME and its management as well as several websites related to the topic which for example SME Info Portal. This whole process, I believe has improved both my knowledge and skills. I learnt how to work with others as a team, it taught me how to compromise as I need to be open in accepting other people ideas or opinion and also in handling conflicts. In addition to that, basically, I am more knowledgeable on this topic. From the research, I discovered various type of SME in Malaysia which can classified under 3 category that are Primary Agriculture, Manufacturing (including Agro-Based) MRS, Services Sector (including ICT) . Furthermore, I am also more aware on characteristics needed to be an entrepreneur, and one essential trait they must have i s to be a risk taker. Bourgeois and Proletarians free essay sample

Some societies, like the bourgeois has not ended societal oppression and has instead recreated new class structures, which created not a solution but new societal issues and oppression that masked the old struggle. The bourgeois in particular has simplified active hostility among the classes, however society has branched off into two divided and very much opposing groups, being the bourgeois and the proletariat. The bourgeois steamed from aspects of the burghers that came the serfs in the Middle Ages. From the early middle age towns beginning with the serfs were the foundations in which the bourgeois were created. With the discoveries of America, colonization and European expansion the Bourgeois had much opportunity to be a rising class and take advantage of all that the discovery of America had to offer. With new discoveries and trade with other countries gave immense development to feudal societies. The markets of the feudal system were not longer able to meet the needs of the growing economy and so a new market system arose; guild masters were set aside by the manufacturing middle class. This growing market made the separation not within corporate guilds but rather among labor in workshops. As the markets exponentially expanded, they were no longer able to keep up with the growing demands, and with industrial steam and mechanical productions the manufacture were replaced by the industrial middle class who were the industry leaders, that which were the bourgeois. It was the discovery of America that brought on the rapid growth of markets, just like the ever-expanding markets, commerce and railways so did the bourgeois, by expanding their capital as well as establishing themselves in classes. Through this it can be seen that the modern bourgeois has been a long developing class through commerce and expansion as well as industrialism and commodities. Throughout the bourgeois development were political class advances that were tied along with it. Societies comprised of the â€Å"lower† and oppressed class were under rule of self governing nobility, places like Italy and Germany were independent urban states where as the â€Å"third estate† was a self ruling monarchy such as in France. After serving absolute monarchies or semi-feudalism and the prosper of the world markets made a name for itself in political abilities and in a representative state. The bourgeois played a very influential part in societal revolution, one that can be argued to be the most important part. It was usually the bourgeois that have had their way and has vanquished many other societal relationships such as idyllic, feudal and patriarchal. It established many societal changes, changes that more so revolved around value and worth. The bourgeois powers were masked by religious and political virtues and law, however and more importantly they set up free trade, were known for exploitation and other ungodly matters. The once so honorable occupations such as doctors, lawyers, priest and poet were belittled to mere everyday paid wageworkers. To the bourgeois family was seen as a money transaction, their families were used to be made a profit of and sough out in any way to be used to grow their income. People admire the bourgeois for the strength throughout the middle ages and that it shows what mans wonders can accomplish, which can be said to more than that of the famous Egyptian pyramids, Gothic cathedrals and Roman aqueducts; as for the greatest expeditions of all time such as the crusades and those of any other famous mass departures of people. The way the bourgeoisie were so dominant and strong was due to there alterations of what ever was necessary as they saw fit; changing relations of society as needed and changing production as needed. What made the bourgeoisies different from classes, especially the earlier industrial classes, was the need for constant revolutionary changes in production, keeping social conditions undisturbed, and ambiguity. Ancient outlooks and opinions and values become outdated, so that man now faces real life and societal conditions The markets expand ever so vastly so that the bourgeoisie also expand throughout globe, to settle and establish themselves. The bourgeoisie establish a feel of comfort and easy with its production and consumption throughout the globe, where ever they are settled across the globe. Reactionist say that it has came from underneath great modes of production to a larger than ever expansion of industry and consumption. Old national industries are being taken over by new industries where they are no longer mining raw materials in their own back yard but throughout various places across the globe. Old wants as well as old national and local find new wants and alter production to suit their needs; independence of sister nations are now possible. Just as commercial production become more and more prominent so does intellectual productions, from this the combination of world and local intellectual creates an overall world literature. By the bourgeoisies immense rapid modes of production of all kinds it brings about the most barbaric nations to join them in civilization, along with luring all nations, even those nations close to extensions, to take part in their means of production. They made the world adopt their customs making the bourgeois, and their nations into bourgeois nations. The cities that the bourgeoisie created were by far large, and the population within those cities grew much more than that of the rural areas. This made barbarian towns dependent on the civilized bourgeoisies, just as similarly the country was dependent on the towns. There was much to do with the size of let population, as there was a mass of population centralized to the means of production; property was taken care of by few, this would mean that politics were going to be centralized. Provinces that were independent of one another became nation, with the same under one law, government, same national interest, tariffs, and customs. The hundred year reign of the bourgeois produced more and gained the most productive strength than that of another previous generation before them. It was through the means of production and exchange that the bourgeois in a feudal society made a name for it and began to expand. However, the feudal relations of property were no longer able to keep up with such quick development that they were restrained from developing and making a profit in many industries. Social and political constitution was adapted to feudal society by the economical and political influence of the bourgeois class. Movements such as that in which the bourgeoisie had developed are present today, with relations of production, exchange, property and society. Today there is a revolt against modern productive forces and bourgeoisie modern conditions of production, which is a threat to the bourgeoisie rule. There is a threat of having past creative productive forces abolished from time to time, until one day it would be gone forever, and a crisis that this will cause over-production, and too much of everything, that which in past history would seem quite ironic. Because of the bourgeoisie power and their accomplishments as they try to remedy the crisis they simply bring more kayos to their society and prevent themselves in thriving and keeping their property. The bourgeoisie have a few ways to get over the crisis; by enforcing destruction of mass productive forces or by conquest of new markets. That is to say that the destructive forces in which the bourgeoisie overcame feudalism are now being used against them. However, not only do the weapons once used by the bourgeoisie hurt itself but it also endangers the working class- the proletarians. Just as the bourgeois developed so did the proletarians- the working class, and so they will continue to live and thrive as long as there is work and as song long labor increases they will be able to find work. As the market fluctuates so does the working class, and so they are similar to commodities. Due to machinery and the division of labour the working class are seen to have on charm as their jobs do not have a glamorous side, as they are simply men who work the machines. As the work increased the wages are decreased Modern industries converted small workshops of patriarchal masters into great large industrial capitalist factories. The large masses of workers are similar to that of soldiers and organized as such that it is in the army and are placed under the command of their commanding officers. Similarly once again it is as if the working class are enslaved by the bourgeoisies class, bourgeois state and the machinery in which they use to work. Age and sex (male or female) are of little importance as the both provide labor, although men put forth more labor women are still able to provide labor. After workers are paid their wages and made to be felt inferior the go out into society and are also exploited by people such as their landlords and shop keepers. The lower part of the middle class, comprising of; small trades people, shop keepers, retired trades people, handicraftsmen and peasants gradually fall into the proletarian category because they do not have the wealth as the larger corporations and because their skills are considered to be not needed and useless in the world. As soon as the proletarians arose and began in history it was at constant struggle with the bourgeoisie. It began individually and expanded to the working laborers and to began to attack against the bourgeoisie who exploited them. However they did not attack the bourgeoisie themselves but against what belonged to them; their equipment and machinery, by setting factories on fire and/or smashing their machines. Workers yet did not have a union and rather grouped themselves among their nation and at a secret war with one another, they were under the stronghold and union of the bourgeoisie instead. They oddly did not fight their enemies but instead they fought their enemies’ opposition. This whole movement and every victory during this time period was a victory for the bourgeoisie. As the industry developed so did the proletarians, they grew in number and they grew in strength as the proletarians start to become more equal. The new sense of equality among the proletarians are due to the low wages given to all workers despite the level of labor, there were no ranks and no distinction of labor. Proletarians begin to form working associations with one another and unions as the bourgeoisie gave working fluctuating wages, they rallied together for high and non fluctuating wages. At times the contest between the proletarians would end up in revolts. At times the workers got what they wanted but it was not always victorious for them. Their main challenge was to expand their union, what made this helpful was the modern industry creating a better means of communication in which workers from far regions would be able to communicate with one another. This mean of communication now allowed workers from other nations to join together to somewhat of a unified group to address the struggle between the classes. From being divided into a class of their own the proletarians became a political party, yet there among competition with one another to and again, however after their fall as competitors they rise again more stronger that the previously were. Through legislation of workers the ten-hour bill in England was then carried. The bourgeoisie are at first in struggle with the aristocracy and then with other bourgeoisie who have come to have antagonistic interest to the process of the industry and for this they are in a turmoil majority of the time. As the bourgeoisie have their own struggles, the struggles of other classes help the proletarians fundamentally develop. For sometimes the bourgeoisie asked the proletarians for help in that in return they would give the proletarians ammunition to use against the bourgeoisie. This shows that the bourgeoisie themselves, being the ruling class, somewhat appealed to the proletarians and/or also are seen to have a possibility to feel helpless towards them at times. They seem to have had an effect on the proletarians by showing them of their will and power the proletarians developed a sense of enlightenment and progress. There begins a movement of disorganization and disbanding of the ruling class in which old society begins violent character where that ruling classes moved to revolutionary class, just as the nobility had moved to the bourgeoisie; and now a ration of the bourgeoisie move to the proletariats and lastly a portion of the bourgeoisie ideologist. Compared to any class the proletarians are a revolutionary class, compared to any other class who eventually become extinct in the face of modern industry. The lower middle class are in constant struggle and fight the bourgeoisie to prevent themselves from disappearing, such as artisans, shopkeepers and peasants; they are conservative rather that revolutionary. If they are revolutionary and have future interest rather than present-day interest they will become proletariats. Old society is old and rotten, just wasting there and may get swept up in the proletarian movement. The proletariat of old society have no national character, as it has been taken by modern industrial labor and modern subjection to capital. In the past classes who had the upper hand tried to fix society to tend to their means and appropriation, yet the proletarians had no upper hand to begin with and no property or capital at that. Their means were instead destroying their enemies’ property Movements throughout history have been that of minorities or have had minorities interest included in those movements. The proletarian movement is one of a mass group of people from different nation who share the same class struggles of being the lowest societal class that struggles to make it better for themselves. The struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletarians is one of a first national struggle, but before the proletarians from other nations can come together they must first settle the struggle within their own nations bourgeoisie and then create a union among themselves. The development of the proletarians can be traced back to civil wars where upset societies create such an uproar that a revolution breaks out in which the bourgeoisie are taken over which builds a foundation for the proletarians. Up to present day society has been class and oppression based, however class oppression must have certain boundaries before the class disappears, and upon a class being oppressed the existence must be maintainable and able to thrive. You see a serf in his time rise to the occasion and take on commune memberships and make a name for himself where as the modern laborer sink deeper and deeper into non existence in his own class until her becomes a pauper, and with this the bourgeoisie are not considered fit to rule because there is no promise an existence of the laborer within labor. And so the condition for existence of the bourgeoisie is capital and the condition to have capital is the need for paid labor. The development of modern industry therefore fails the bourgeoisie as what was once the bourgeoisie foundation is taken from them and so the proletarians are victorious. Bourgeois and Proletarians, Summary We see the history of the bourgeoisie as well as the history of the proletarians and importantly the relationship between the proletarians and the bourgeoisie and how both classes grew to both become revolutionary, more so one than the other, the proletarians. The Communist Manifesto attempts to explain the sparks of historical revolutions, in particular the bourgeoisie and the proletarians and that the means of production and industrial advancement creates class struggles as one class, the more powerful class, in this case the bourgeoisie, exploits the working class. The modern industrial society is taken aback by the conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletarians, particularly due to the exploitation from the bourgeoisie; poor working conditions and low wages. The proletarians take force as they become larger and stronger in number to take on the bourgeoisie, however they have no property so instead they destroy the property of the bourgeoisie by ruining the machinery and putting fire to their factories and leading a revolution. It implies that revolutions creates new classes and argues that advancement in production is unavoidable and will happen throughout the future as it has been in the past. Once strong leaders and upper middle class can be overthrown by never been used tactics such as the proletarians and they use of property destruction.

Crusades Effects on the Middle East Between 1095 and 1291, Christians from western Europe launched a series of eight major invasions against the Middle East. These attacks, called the Crusades, were aimed at liberating the Holy Land and Jerusalem from Muslim rule. The Crusades were sparked by religious fervor in Europe, by exhortations from various Popes, and by the need to rid Europe of excess warriors left over from regional wars. What effect did these attacks, which came from out of the blue from the perspective of Muslims and Jews in the Holy Land, have on the Middle East? Short-Term Effects In an immediate sense, the Crusades had a terrible effect on some of the Muslim and Jewish inhabitants of the Middle East. During the First Crusade, for example, adherents of the two religions joined together to defend the cities of Antioch (1097 CE) and Jerusalem (1099) from European Crusaders who laid siege to them. In both cases, the Christians sacked the cities and massacred the Muslim and Jewish defenders alike. It must have been horrifying to see armed bands of religious zealots approaching to attack a city or castle. However, as bloody as the battles could be, on the whole, the people of the Middle East considered the Crusades more of an irritant than an existential threat. A Global Trade Power During the Middle Ages, the Islamic world was a global center of trade, culture, and learning. Arab Muslim traders dominated the rich trade in spices, silk, porcelain, and jewels that flowed between China, the area that is now Indonesia, India,​ and points west. Muslim scholars had preserved and translated the great works of science and medicine from classical Greece and Rome, combined that with insights from the ancient thinkers of India and China, and went on to invent or improve subjects like algebra and astronomy, and medical innovations such as the hypodermic needle. Europe, on the other hand, was a war-torn region of small, feuding principalities, mired in superstition and illiteracy. One of the primary reasons that Pope Urban II initiated the First Crusade (1096–1099), in fact, was to distract the Christian rulers and nobles of Europe from fighting one another by creating a common enemy for them- the Muslims who controlled the Holy Land. Europes Christians would launch seven additional crusades over the next two hundred years, but none was as successful as the First Crusade. One effect of the Crusades was the creation of a new hero for the Islamic world: Saladin, the Kurdish sultan of Syria and Egypt, who in 1187 freed Jerusalem from the Christians but refused to massacre them as they had done to the citys Muslim and Jewish citizens ninety years previously. On the whole, the Crusades had little immediate effect on the Middle East, in terms of territorial losses or psychological impact. By the 1200s, people in the region were much more concerned about a new threat: the quickly-expanding Mongol Empire, which would bring down the Umayyad Caliphate, sack Baghdad, and push toward Egypt. Had the Mamluks not defeated the Mongols in the Battle of Ayn Jalut (1260), the entire Muslim world might have fallen. Effects on Europe In the centuries that followed, it was actually Europe that was most changed by the Crusades. The Crusaders brought back exotic new spices and fabrics, fueling European demand for products from Asia. They also brought back new ideas- medical knowledge, scientific ideas, and more enlightened attitudes about people of other religious backgrounds. These changes among the nobility and soldiers of the Christian world helped to spark the Renaissance and eventually set Europe, the backwater of the Old World, on a course toward global conquest. Long-Term Effects of the Crusades on the Middle East Eventually, it was Europes rebirth and expansion that finally created a Crusader effect in the Middle East. As Europe asserted itself during the fifteenth through nineteenth centuries, it forced the Islamic world into a secondary position, sparking envy and reactionary conservatism in some sectors of the formerly more progressive Middle East. Today, the Crusades constitute a major grievance for some people in the Middle East, when they consider relations with Europe and the West. That attitude is not unreasonable- after all, European Christians launched two hundred years-worth of unprovoked attacks on the Middle East out of religious zealotry and blood-lust. 21st Century Crusade In 2001, United States President George W. Bush reopened the almost thousand-year-old wound in the days following the 9/11 Attacks. On Sunday, September 16, 2001, President Bush said, this crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take a while. The reaction in the Middle East and, interestingly, also in Europe was sharp and immediate: Commentators in both regions decried Bushs use of that term  and vowed that the terrorist attacks and the USs reaction could not turn into a new clash of civilizations like the medieval Crusades. In an odd way, however, the American reaction to 9/11 did echo the Crusades. The Bush administration decided to launch the Iraq War, despite the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. Just as the first several crusades had done, this unprovoked attack killed thousands of innocents in the Middle East  and perpetuated the cycle of mistrust that had developed between the Muslim and Christian worlds since Pope Urban urged the European knights to liberate the Holy Land from the Saracens. Alaska is different from Florida in several ways such as the time zones. In Alaska the time is four hours behind the time in Florida. Another way they are different is in the place that they are on a map. Alaska is in the North West and Florida is in the South East. These two places also differ in climate. In Alaska the climate is cold, while in Florida there is a tropical climate. Along with different climates come different temperatures.In Alaska the normal temperature in the summer is about fifty degrees Fahrenheit. In Florida the normal temperature is about ninety. Oedipus Rex Essay

I believe the main point Sophocles was trying to convey in the story â€Å"Oedipus Rex† was that you have to be accountable for your actions. He shows this by the use of dramatic, situational, and many more different kinds of irony. Sophocles also uses foreshadowing to show how Oedipus needs to be accountable for his actions. Sophocles is teaching his audience an important life lesson. Sophocles shows his audience that you have to be accountable for your own actions. He does this by showing the audience that no one could have stopped Oedipus from fulfilling his life’s prophecy. In the play â€Å"Oedipus Rex† Sophocles tells the story of a man, who is now king of Thebes. He was born in a different land and was told a prophecy that he would kill his own father and wed his mother. When he heard this he fled from the land and came to Thebes where he claimed the throne and became their king. Oedipus is a head strong person. Who often doesn’t think before he speaks, such as when he says, â€Å"And for myself I pray that if he should, with my knowledge, become a resident of my house, I may suffer the same things which I have just called down on others. Oedipus says this not knowing that he himself is the murderer and that he will punish himself. Oedipus also makes judgments and decisions before he knows all the facts. One example of this is when Creon says, â€Å"Kinswoman, Oedipus, your husband, wants to do one of two terrible things to me, either thrust me from the land of my fathers or to arrest and slay me. † Oedipus is so angry with Creon that he does not think before accusing him even though Creon is trying to protect Oedipus. Since Oedipus’ character is flawed it helps support Sophocles’ point of saying that you are accountable for your own actions. This is shown the best when Oedipus tells his wife, Jocasta, that while he was traveling to Thebes he ran into a man on the road who tried to push Oedipus from the path. Oedipus, having a short temper, struck out and slayed all the men in and leading the carriage. This was not a good thing to do in the first place, but what Oedipus did not realize was that the man in the carriage was Laius. Laius was the former king of Thebes and was Oedipus’ biological father. When he killed Laius he fulfilled half of his prophecy. This fulfillment is also an example of situational irony. It is situational irony because Oedipus believed he would be the hero and banish the murderer of Laius from the land. He believed he would end all the suffering, but in fact he was the murderer. Another example of irony that supports Sophocles’ idea that you are accountable for your actions is when Oedipus says, â€Å"†¦ who declared that I was doomed to slay my father? But he is dead, and lies beneath the earth, and here I am, not having put my hand to any spear†¦Ã¢â‚¬  This is dramatic irony. Dramatic irony occurs when the audience knows more than the characters in the story. In which case things said and events in the story take on different meanings to the characters and to the audience. In this case Oedipus thinks he has overcome his life’s prophecy because he did not kill the man he believed to be his father. But the audience knows that Oedipus’ real father is Laius. The audience also knows that Laius was the man on the road that Oedipus murdered. So to the audience this just ads to the suspense of Oedipus finding out that he is the murderer. Foreshadowing also plays a huge role in showing Sophocles’ point that you are accountable for your own actions. In the play, Oedipus Rex, foreshadowing is used in the lines said by Jocasta, â€Å"No. Soon after he returned and found you ruling in Laius’ stead, he pled with me, with hand laid on mine, to send him to the fields, to the pastures of the flocks, that he might be far from the sight of this town. † This is foreshadowing because the audience knows that the man fled because he saw Oedipus, the same man who had murdered his king, ruling the city. Oedipus though only now is starting to question the event in which he killed men on the same road that the Laius was killed on. This is a foreshadowing of Oedipus finding out that he is Laius’ son and that he fulfilled the prophecy by killing his father and marrying his mother. Sophocles was trying to convey the message that you are responsible for your actions because you never know what might happen because of your mistakes. He shows this message in â€Å"Oedipus Rex†. He uses irony, foreshadowing and the flaws in Oedipus’ character to relay his message.

This causes the sound called thunder. Lightning is caused by a build up of negative ions in the atmosphere which discharges into the ground causing the negative ions to go with the positive ions in the ground. Static electricity is negatively and positively charged atoms. A static charge on the other hand is a individual atom with a negative or positive charge. There are three types of charges negative positive and neutral. Negative and positive ions attract. But two negatives repel each other, just like two positives will. Neutrally charged ions can attract to both negative and positive ions, because they have and balanced charge of negative and positive ions, this means it has the same amount of negative and positive ions. This is where the following rule is true opposites attract, and likes repel. Static electricity is generated when two different objects are rubbed together and some electrons are stolen from one object and then start to collect on the surface of the other object. The object that loses electrons becomes positively charged, because electrons are negatively charged and there is an absence of electrons and too many protons. Now because opposites attract and like repel the reason hair stands up when you rub something on it can be explained. When something is rubbed in a dry place, the thing takes electrons from your hair, leaving your hair with a positive charge it stands up as far away as possible from the other positively charged hairs. There reason there is little static electricity in areas with a high humidity, like the Virgin Islands, is because the humidity in the air is a conductor of electricity, so it helps trancfer the free electrons to an area that can accept electrons, like the earth so not many free electrons stay on any object that is saturated. Static electricity can be use to do many things, one of these things is keeping down air pollution by putting an electrode in factory smoke stacks so that the dust will collect on the electrode. Lightning and static can be hazardous. lightning is harmful, some people think it does not have any threat from a distance, like when a lighting storm is up to ten miles away. The most lightning strikes take place under the lightning storm where the rain is raining the hardest. Signs to tell if lightning is going to strike in your area are, If your hair stands up you hear static popping or crackling, and if you feel you body tingle due to ions moving through your body the static on portable electronic things increases suddenly, you smell the smell of statically charged air, or you see static sparks sparking in the air around you. Things to do inside to keep from getting hurt while in a lightning storm are, get away from doorways outside, porches, windows, and good conductors of electricity. Avoid phones that are not cordless and if it is a cordless phone avoid it if it is on the cradle. Do not touch things that use electricity unless they are unplugged. Do not stand near or lay on concrete walls. Do not use a metal building for shelter. And don't go into the basement because the electricity can travel through the ground. To not get hurt outside, go inside if you hear thunder, if the sky looks threatening, and stay inside for at least 30 minutes after the la st sound of thunder. If you are caught outside and do not have shelter close to you during a lightning storm, you should crouch to the ground, get onto the balls of your feet, put your hands on your knees, put your head between your knees, make yourself as small as you can, and try to have as little physical contact to the ground as you can. Definition and Examples of Belles-Lettres in English In its broadest sense, the term belles-lettres (from the French, literally fine letters) can refer to any literary work. More particularly, the term is now generally applied (when used at all) to the lighter branches of literature (The Oxford English Dictionary, 1989). Until recently, belles-lettres has similarly been used as a synonym for the familiar essay. Adjective: belletristic. Pronunciation: bel-LETR(É™). From the Middle Ages until the late 19th century, notes William Covino, belles-lettres and rhetoric had been inseparable subjects, informed by the same critical and pedagogical lexicon (The Art of Wondering, 1988). Usage note: Though the noun belles-lettres has a plural ending, it can be used with either a singular or plural verb form. Examples and Observations The emergence of a literature of belles-lettres in Anglo-America reflected the success of the colonies: it meant there now existed a community of settlers who took settling in the New World enough for granted not to write about it. Instead of histories, they wrote essays in which style mattered as much as content and sometimes more . . ..Belles-lettres, a literary mode that originated in 17th-century France, signified writing in the style and service of cultivated society. The English mostly kept the French term but on occasion translated it as polite letters. Belle-lettres denotes a linguistic self-consciousness testifying to the superior education of both writer and reader, who come together more through literature than through life. Or rather, they meet in a world reconstructed by literature, for belles-lettres makes life literary, adding an aesthetic dimension to morality. According to one of the literature professors who occupied the chair of rhetoric and belles lettres established for Hugh Blair, Blair was the first to recognize that Rhetoric in modern times really means Criticism (Saintsbury 463). Rhetoric and composition began to be subsumed into literary criticism at the same time that the modern sense of literature was emerging . . .. In the 18th century, literature was reconceived as literary work or production; the activity or profession of a man of letters, and it moved toward the modern restricted sense, applied to writing which has claim to consideration on the ground of beauty of form or emotiona l effect. . . . The plays will be going down in different cinemas in the New York. The first play that we will watch is called Lion King. The movie is being shown live at the renowned Sunshine Cinema, which has a good reputation in terms of safety and quality entertainment that is perfect for young people.We will be watching the movie with our teachers, which mean that there will be no illicit behavior as it happens with some movie theatres.

Interpersonal and written communication techniques Essay Lip-reading: One skill that I have not fully develop to make me more employable in the I.T industry is the lip reading technique. Lip reading is the movement of lips and tongue; body language and facial expressions add to this technique, as it helps you to lip read better. With this technique I learnt that you have to look at the way a person stresses their speech, the rhythm and phrasing when trying to lip read. A good thing that I find about lip reading is that it provides a method of communication for deafened people. However, I found it quite difficult to lip read, because you have to pay full attention and look at lip shape and movement at all times, preventing me from concentrating. This technique is useful because it is a means of communication for the severely or totally deafened people. I also found this technique difficult to use because not all words are easy to read, some people mumble or even covered their hands when they were talking. This prevented me to lip read exactly what they say. I can further improve on this technique, by practising it over and over again, as it takes time and patience. Through this I will also be improving my confidence and strengthening my communication ability. Body language: I have developed my method of body language to make myself more employable to the i.t industry. Body language is the non-verbal signals as a method of communication through stance, gestures, facial expression etc. It also builds better relationships at home or at school. Some people may find it difficult to use body language in order to communicate, because they might find it hard to understand their gestures or facial expressions to convey what they are trying to say. This technique is useful and important in order to send the right message and to be able to read the signals the other person is sending back. Spoken communication is essential, as well as body language and facial expressions. By giving of natural body language, you are  showing that you are paying complete attention to what the employer is saying. Barriers to communication: I have develop the skill of barriers to communications. I developed this by making sure that I did not make the audience bored with my presentation. I did this by projecting my voice, so that it was loud and clear for the audience to hear and understand. Also, I made sure that my mobile phone was switched off, to avoid any distractions whilst presenting my presentation. This is a good skill to have because when communicating because when in a Conversation you are showing that you are paying full attention to everything they are saying. Positive language: I have developed the skill of using positive gesture. For example, having a smile on my face can make the other person feel more comfortable with what they are trying to say. I have also been using a genuine, formal tone of voice when addressing my peers, which makes me come across as someone with a positive attitude. I used ‘nodding’ as a form of positive language when someone was talking or explaining something to me. This shows that I am in agreement with what they are trying to say. In some conversations I may have summarised what they said to show that I have been listening to what they have said. Negative language: I have developed the skill to avoid using negative language with the improvement in my positive language. The use of negative language when communication with another person can make them feel really uncomfortable, this may also make them not want to talk to you. I stopped using negative facial expressions, to make myself come across more positively than negatively. I respond to people even if I have no interest in what they are saying. Types of questions: This is one of the skills that I have not improved on. I don’t tend to ask open questions when in a conversation. When I am not interested in a conversation I tend to either say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to questions. This stops the conversation from flowing and shows my lack of interest. This technique can be improved/developed by avoiding the use of closed questions, because it  may show that you don’t want to be a part of that particular conversation and want it to end by giving dull replies. Speed of response: The speed of response technique depends on what the question or conversation is about. There may be some questions that I might be asked that require time to think to be able to give a clear respond to what they have asked. However, in some particular conversations my speed of response is quite fast, because I am aware of what to say. So, my speed of response depends completely on what the conversation or questions are about. Written communication skills: Capitalisation: A skills that I have improved in written communication is capitalisation. I have improved on this skill by always ensuring that I always use capital letters when writing a letter or important emails as it is essential and makes the letter or email look more professional. Capital letters are use at the start of sentences, names and country names. They are also used abbreviations for UK, USA etc. The idea of capitalisation is to make sure your sentences are clear. They can also be used for emphasis, you could capitalise words within your work and in order to emphasise your opinion. It may be difficult to read over your work to check that you have added capital letters if you are in a rush. Structure: One of the skills that I have not developed in written communication is structure, because I find it time consuming to structure a piece of writing. However, it is important to structure your piece of writing so that it makes sense. You will be able to order your writing in order of importance. Ordering your writing is important, because the reader may not understand your writing. I can further improve on this skills by making sure that I order and structure my work neatly as I go along, instead of leaving to the end, which makes it more time consuming. If I don’t do this then I am making it more difficult for myself trying to figure out what I have written. Smileys: I have improved on this skills, because I am able to use smileys and  emotions, which makes the conversation flow more effectively. However they are only used informally and not it letters. They can change the mood of you’re writing to show what mood you are in. It is also easier to get messages across to the other person. It is easier to show excitement or sarcasm with the use of emotions. They can also be used for advertisements, which can make the poster look more interesting and can easily grab the reader’s attention. However, they are not to be used in letters or in important emails, as it might give a bad impression of you, and you may not be taken seriously. Therefore, it is important to improve on this technique, as you should be aware of when you should or should not use these informal methods of communicating. Proof reading/spelling/grammar: I have not improved on the technique of proof reading my spelling and grammar after writing a letter or email. I think it would be important to improve on this technique as my letter would look more professional. Sending a letter or email that has poor spelling and poor use of grammar, shows your lack of interest and you will not be taken seriously. I can further improve on this technique by taking time out to proof read my work before sending it out. Proof reading my work can make a huge difference, because I will be taken more seriously if my letter is written in a more professional manner. Alternative viewpoints: I have not improved on the technique of giving or taking on board alternative viewpoints. I think it is a good idea to maybe take on board alternative viewpoints given to me by other people, so that I try more than one way of dong certain tasks. I think I can improve on this technique by giving other people my alternative viewpoints. In this way it shows that I have been listening to what the other person has been saying. By taking on board other the viewpoints of other people will help me to improve on my work. However, it may be difficult to grasp, because I rarely ever take on alternative viewpoints. Note taking: I have improved on the technique of note taking since September. I have improved on this skill, as I had started to take notes of important topics discussed during class discussions. Also I have started to highlight the key  facts on the hand-outs that were given to me. So that I focus mainly on the key points. This made it easier for me when it came to revision, because I knew exactly what I had to revise on for the exam. I also annotated the points on the hand outs, so that I am aware of what it means when I come to revise on that topic, as I am able to clearly understand it with extra detail. Guidelines: I have improved on the technique of using guidelines when doing my work. In September when starting my ict btec course, I downloaded the assignment brief for each unit. I always had the assignment brief out whenever I did a task, to help me understand what I have got to do to achieve the task clearly with step to step instructions given of everything I need to add in order to pass the task. Having improved on this technique was useful, because it gave me extra information of what the course is about, the deadlines for each task etc. Using the assignment brief made me more independent as I didn’t need to constantly ask my teacher for help.

Introduction Teaching is a crucial profession because it is designed to empower students; to give them more freedom, more power and more prestige. Teachers hold in their hands the success of our country and the wellbeing of its citizens; they are the key to help every person to realise his/her full potential. In teaching process, teachers use the target language to promote their communication with learners. They use this language so that they could encourage the communication between learners and themselves. This language is called teacher talk. Teacher talk is the exact words that teachers say to their students (Dickson, 2005; Crawford, 1999). In the other word, it is the content of lesson each teacher taught during each period of the class. Although teachers use same textbook as their teaching materials, each teacher has his/her own methods and words for their teaching process. "Teacher talk is used in class when teachers are conducting instructions, cultivating their intellectual ability and managing classroom activities" (Qican, 1999, p.23). In the other word, teacher talk is a kind of communication-based talk. Teacher talk is considered as an important element in language teaching (Cook, 2000). Researchers (Cook, 2000; Chaudron, 1988; Xiaohong, 1998) believed that teacher talk makes up around seventy percentage of classroom language. In the teaching process, teachers organize their teaching activities and consequently help students practice through their teacher talk. In English classroom, teacher’s language is not the only objective of the course, but also the medium to achieve the teaching objectives. Teacher talk has some features. One feature refers to the teacher talk's form such as speed, pause, repetition and modific... ...s such as positive reinforcement, encouragement, trusting, caring and accepting, toward students in the classroom. Communication: Longman Dictionary of Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics defines communication as "the exchange of ideas, information, etc., between two or more persons. In an act of communication there is usually at least one speaker or sender, a message which is transmitted, and a person or persons for whom this message is intended (the receiver). Communication is studied from many disciplinary perspectives, is often viewed as a discipline in its own right, and is central to sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and information theory". Learning Attitude: It is expressions of positive or negative feelings towards learning which may cause ease or difficulty of learning a language. Critical Thinking and Sexual Decision PSY/265 January 18, 2013 Critical Thinking and Sexual Decision When using value systems for making sexual decisions, you are talking about legalism, Situational ethics, ethical revelation, hedonism, ascetism, utilitarianism and rationalism. Each of these value systems is another way of justifying why you make the decisions you make. According to Rathus, Nevid, and Fichner-Rathus (2011) legalism is when people base their decisions on an external code of moral laws such as religion.Situational ethics is when people base their decisions on what they are facing at the present time. Ethical relativism is when people believe that there is more than one correct moral view and bases their decisions on their principles and their conscience. Hedonism is when people base their decision on if something feels good or not with no regard to any morals. Ascetism is the belief of self-denial of material and sexual desires, therefore making their decisions based o n that belief. Utilitarianism is when people base a decision on â€Å"the greatest good for the greatest number. Rationalism is when people base their decision after weighing the pros and cons about doing something. When it came to me personally I would have to say that I can see myself using two of the value systems. The first would be ethical relativism. Although I do not feel that there is one set of morals, I do base my decisions on my principles and my conscience. An example of this would be when a man thought that he could buy me. He told me that I could have anything I wanted, and that he would pay my bills, as well as making sure that my children would want for nothing and that all I had to do was sleep with him.The catch is, he was married. When facing this choice it was my principles and my conscience that made me say no. The second would be rationalism. The reason for this is because I always weigh the pros and cons before making any decision in my life. These decisions can be anything from how I spend my money, to whom I may have sex with. Introduction The rate of return that is required is employed in evaluating equity and is the least percentage in a year that is gained by investments of a company through the investors. The cost of equity is the rate of return on investments that is required by the shareholders of a company. The paper will discuss the three models which are the dividend growth, the CAPM and the arbitrage pricing theory. This will be in order to determine which one of them is the best for anticipating the rate of return required. It will also discuss the factors that influence the beta of a company in order to determine the cost of equity. The best model for estimating the required rate of return Dividend growth model is the best for estimating the required rate of return of the company because it is simple in terms of calculations. It is not complicated to apply and enables investors to calculate the growth of their stock easily. This model does not require a specialist and accurate decisions are made on time. This model enables the firms that use it to grow in a rate that is stable and their profits grow at the same level with the dividends. This ensures the investors that the company will meet up their compulsions. It is the best because it is constant as shareholders do not receive more dividends when the company increases profits more than expected. It is a way of determining the value of a share with regard to the current value of the dividends that the company expects to achieve in the future. Dividends can be described as the cash flows that are given back to the shareholders. Recommendation to the board of directors I would recommend to the board of directors that the SLP Company should use the dividend growth model because it is not complicated. It is also certain as the investors are given a fixed rate of return enabling the company to grow steadily. The model also has a basis that is logical as the investors are paid dividends according to their shares. It is also predictable and constant and that is why I would recommend it to the board of directors. Ease of use The simplicity of using the Capital Asset Pricing Model is because it has got relatively simple formulae to use. r = rF + ÃŽ ²*(rM – rF) Where r = requisite rate of return of financial assets ÃŽ ² = financial quality beta rF = risk free pace rM = required charge of return of   market portfolio The model also determines the type of index which suites the company market. For instance, if the business owner feels that the Russell 3000 best represents the business, it is necessary to use it since it is available. The model also looks for beta asset values as computed by Google, finance and yahoo finances. The simplicity of the Arbitrage Pricing Theory is the fact that the model is not restrictive in comparison to other pricing models and theories. The ease use of the divided growth is the fact that it is both easy to use and understand. Accuracy The accuracy of the Capital Asset Pricing Model is that it provides accurate and reasonable results.   By use of its formulae correctly and enough data, accuracy is achieved easily. The fact that the Arbitrage Pricing Theory includes more factors, the theory is also considered more accurate in comparison with the Capital Asset Pricing Model. Since the dividends are fixed during payment, the divided growth is also an accurate method. The method also requires reasonable accurate in order to be effective and accurate. Assumption Capital asset pricing model is based on some fundamental assumptions. For instance, it is true that the investors have similar homogeneous beliefs based on returns for they are interested in maximizing returns commencing their investors. Additionally, the assumption that most people access information on the investment opportunities is evenly practical in a market which is perfect. On the asset pricing model, the assumption that systematic risks exist is true for the environment operated in is full of risks from the external and internal sources. The risks do not have an influence on the investment’s rate of returns. Under the dividend growth model, the fact that it is a powerful and simple tool to use its application is also limited to the businesses developing at a rate which is stable. The model also tends to ignore the organizational cycles where the businesses begin and later declines. The cost of equity is an evaluation that is used in analysis which shows the rate of return that an investor requires. This involves the dividends to evaluate them and be able to take the possibility of investing in a firm. This is because the return is too low which indicates that the cost of equity is high. The theory of finance suggests that when the possibility of investing in a company is high the cost of equity also goes high and when the possibility decreases the cost also goes down. Factors Some of the factors that influence a company beta include; the company’s tax exposure, business risk, the kind of management style, financial flexibility, the market conditions and the growth rates. These factors influence the company beta in different ways. The company’s tax exposure affects the company beta in that the debt payment’s tax is deductable. Therefore, if the origination’s tax rate is at a high position, by use of debt as a channel of financing a project for example is attractive for the deductable tax debts protects profits for the taxes. On the business risk, if the organization risk is high, the optimal arrears ratio is lower. The kind of management style lies between aggressive to constructive activities. If the management approach is aggressive, there is room for the company to become firm by the use of vital debts amounts to increase a company’s share hence development. On the other hand, if the management is constructive, it is less disposed to use the debts as a way of increasing profits. Some of the companies that acquire their finances from borrowing and debts among other methods tend to find conflicts associated with these because the growth firm revenues are not proven and are typically unstable. The market conditions are also influential on the company’s beta. For instance, if a firm has got the need to borrow money for a certain project, the fact remains that the bazaar is struggling and the investors tend to limit the access of companies to capital because of issues with, market concerns. This is likely to affect the company negatively. The financial flexibility allows organizations to raise money even in hard times. The higher financially stable a company is, the less the debts and hence fast development.
